EDM #10 - draw your hand.

Here's my hand.

Today I discovered that there is an art shop within walking distance of my office. This is good news for when I need to buy something, but extremely bad news for my bank account. They sell Cotman paint in tubes and half pans, which is good, but hopefully I'll be confident enough soon to buy and use artist quality paint. But right now I'm still at the stage where I'm afraid of wasting paper.

The bookmarks are done! I had to make an extra one for me.

Then keep working, if you're worrying about "wasting" paper! It's not a waste...it's learning and growing and fun. It's just paper. GO for it!

By the way, I love your banner, what a pretty cat...

GREAT hand! Hands are hard, for me at least.

I love your banner too. Hi Kitty!

Nicely done - I especially like that bit of shading between your thumb and your wrist. :-)

Thanks guys! That bit of shading was the bit I was really unsure about so I'm very happy to see that comment :-)

The cat is my very naughty and spoilt kitty Pokey, who is obsessed with interfering when I am cutting fabric.

I'm impressed with your drawing of your hand. Hands are complicated, and yours turned out realistically.

Very nice...hands are tough. I like the shading you did by the wrist and knuckles on the left side too.

If you get one tube of 'professional quality' watercolor every payday, you will begin to build your pallette. The difference in the way it handles will astonish you. Same for paper - buy one of those huge sheets of high quality press and cut it into smaller ones so you don't feel wasteful. The way it receives the watercolor and reflects it back is wonderful!
Have you read Jim Kosvanec's book "Transparent Watercolor Wheel"? Look at "Cheap Joe's" online store for supplies and see if they are less expensive, even with shipping, than where you shop. Phew...that was a lot. Look forward to seeing more from you!

Great job on the hand. I worry about wasting too. I agree with Physhy. Start using a smaller scale. I use smaller canvas and I cut ACEO size paper when I am unsure or trying something new. So to me less paper, less paint no worries.

Wonderful sketch! You have a great eye for making art.

(My Bearcat says hi to Pokey -- he has at this moment claimed my art stool as his.)

I too have a bead shop (jewelry is my art) about 3 blocks from my house -- it is great for when I need something on the fly, but not great for my bank account. I do love taking walks there (without my credit card or cash) for inspiration though.

Great art work and sketches -- I can't wait to see more!
